NSU Max 250

Markie Says: “Another solid German engineered Classic motor bike”

NSU Max 250 4 stroke

I do love a bike that is un molested. So many people for no reason strip bikes, do nothing with them or totally ruin them or loose parts. This one is in a time warp, the detailing is fantastic and admired when ever it goes out. Been 65 years old its got some scrapes which is totally in keeping with the bike.

Apparently these have a unique overhead cam drive with connecting rods, my late uncle told me all about them as he used to race one! With around 15-18bhp it will do 65mph ish once youve got your head down. NSU was once the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in the world and in the years this was made set world records.

The first weekend I got it, I went to a Military fair at Newark. When I came to start it, it wouldn’t! I had left the lights on! Oh school boy error! When the very nice break down man came an hour later we opened the battery box to charge the battery and found the previous owner hadn’t put the earth wire on correctly. I put it back on and – yes first kick! What a plonker – I never thought to look. Since then with no work it’s been to the Bubble car museum for a German Scooter rally and its been to Pickering war weekend. I drove there as a German dispatch rider and home again as a British dispatch rider – Oh the fun of it.

This is packed with history. The original German owner had it for 50 years from new and then gave it to his daughter when she moved to England. It’s even been an extra in Allo Allo – as much as I try to watch it I’ve never seen it.

Originally it had a sidecar but has been removed, all thats been do to it is have the wheels painted and a new seat.
